100 Years Ago: 1924

According to Dr. A.O. Thomas of Augusta, Maine has staged a tremendous building program. In the last ten years 85 towns have either remodeled their high school plant or built new modern buildings and many others are under construction. The cost of these buildings approximate $6,000,000. This is an enormous advance when it is remembered that when the world war closed we had less than $10,000,000 in school property.

50 Years Ago: 1974

Three Edward Little High School girls are serving as pages for the Republican State Convention, which opened at Bangor. Sponsored by Representative Joyce Lewis of Auburn, chairman of the GOP platform committee, the girls will be special guests Saturday at the state and city committee chairman’s breakfast and at a luncheon at the Sheraton Inn, scheduled to feature former Texas Governor John Connoally and Maine Congressman William Cohen. The girls are Brenda Sawyer, Cindy McFadden and Polly Guy.

25 Years Ago: 1999

The Woman’s Literary Union will hold its annual spring dessert party at 1 pm, Thursday April 22, at the clubhouse at 19 Elm Street, Auburn.

Dessert and beverages will be served. Tickets will be sold for a raffle that will be drawn at the end of the card party.

Deadline for reservations is Monday, and tickets are $2.50 a person. Those attending should bring an unwrapped gift for use as a table prize.

Proceeds will benefit the clubhouse restoration fund.

Committee members are Jacqueline O’Donnell, Melanie Ness, Marciana Bottger, Phyllis Mixer, Louis Rousseau, Dianne Smith, Noella Soucy and Jane Howard.
