Lewiston native Isaiah Harris helped the Brooks Beasts set a world record in the distance medley relay at the Oregon Relays on Friday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.

Harris ran the 800-meter leg of the DMR, which the Beasts finished in 9 minutes, 14.58 seconds.

Three professional teams entered the race with a primary goal of breaking the previous world record of 9:15.50, which was set in 2015. Competing against the Beasts on Friday were the DMR All-Stars and the Wannabeast.

Brannon Kidder started the race for Brooks by running the 1,200 meters in 2:49.6. Then Brandon Miller ran a 46.6-second 400, increasing the Beasts’ lead over the other teams from 17 hundredths of a second to 2.63 seconds, before handing the baton to Harris.

Harris ran his first lap around the track in 50.8 seconds and his second in 54.9, and extended Brooks’ lead to 6 seconds. The 2015 Lewiston High School graduate then made a clean handoff to Henry Wynne to run the final 1,600 meters.

In the final 200 meters, Wynne pulled away from the pace lights that signified the previous record pace. He ran his leg in 3:52.64, and the Beasts surpassed the 2015 record by nearly a second.
