We only had a handful of correct responses for last week’s Mystery Photo of the antique mailbox that sits in front of The Elizabeth Guest House and Restaurant at 32 Main St. in downtown Bethel. In a random drawing of all the correct entries, Joe and Cindy Campbell of Bethel were picked as the winners of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. In their email entry, they told us they pass the old mailbox about every night on their walk. The Queen Anne-style structure was built in 1895 by Gilbert Tuell, a local contractor, for John M. Philbrook, a lumber and cattle merchant and graduate of Gould Academy. He went on to serve several terms in the Maine Senate and was a county commissioner.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
