The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is set to hold a Rotary Shred-a-thon from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 4, at Food City, 295 Main St. in Bridgton.

The Shred-athon is a rain-or-shine, drive-through fundraiser; no appointments are needed. Documents can be boxed or bagged. People do not have to remove clips or file hangers; everything gets shredded. Certificates of destruction are available on request. The suggested donation is $18 per box.

The Shred-a-thon is an opportunity for small businesses and households to have all their sensitive documents destroyed as soon as they drop them off. Any worries about identity theft or fraud related to sensitive documents are over immediately. The U.S. Department of Justice reported that in 2021, 24 million people in the US had been victims of identity theft and suffered financial losses of $16 billion.

The fundraiser will support the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club’s community service projects, including high school scholarships and service awards, childhood literacy programs, Little Free Libraries, Community Kettles, Christmas Angel gifts to local school children, and support of local food pantries, veteran organizations, and many other projects.
