FARMINGTON — National Volunteer Week runs from April 21 to April 27, but it’s not too late to flex your volunteer muscles to support the Care & Share Food Closet Inc. The Care & Share Food Closet serves over 6,800 households throughout Franklin County each year by an entirely volunteer workforce. These volunteers provide local residents with a weekly supplemental food allotment.

Some of the volunteers pick up extra food from grocery stores, some pack the food in boxes, some deliver the food to the people waiting in their car, and there are many other jobs that get filled by volunteers. There are nearly 50 volunteers that together, gave almost 15,000 hours in 2023 supporting the mission of the food closet: To provide food and household essentials to those in need.

The Care & Share Food Closet also supports the Food Closet at St. Joseph Parish in Farmington.  To learn more about volunteer opportunities or to donate food or funds, please contact us from our website: https://www.careandsharefoodcloset.org/ or visit us on FB https://www.facebook.com/people/Care-and-Share-Food-Pantry-Inc/61553176774463/

The truth is, in these days of rising food prices, more clients visit us, and as you know, food costs more. Most of the items we buy in bulk have doubled in price, and some have even tripled. We hope you will consider donating cash, food or time! For the month of May, the Hannaford in Farmington is dedicating the Fight Hunger bags to the Care & Share Food Closet. Buy one next time you shop. Thank you, the Volunteer Board of the Care & Share Food Closet.
