100 Years Ago: 1924

Miss Beatrice Libby, leader of the Jordan High School Mandolin Club, which will give a concert at Lewiston City Hall on May 9th, is one of the most popular and talented young women at the school, and so her work in connection with this club assures everybody of a splendid concert. There will be specialty numbers by the school orchestra.

50 Years Ago: 1974

A May Day concert will be presented by the Auburn Community Band on Wednesday, May 1 at the Webster Middle School. Conducting the annual spring affair will be Mrs. Jeanne Taylor Chandler who is teacher of music education in the Lewiston elementary schools. Mrs. Chandler graduated from the University of Maine, Orono. The concert is open to the public and there is no admission charge, Doors will open at 7 pm and the concert will get underway at 7:30 pm.

25 Years Ago: 1999

Student artists at the University of Maine were presented awards at the annual Student Juried Exhibition and Award Ceremony on Friday, April 9.

Local students receiving awards include Michael McCuddy of Phillips, Shawn Rice of Auburn, Christina Rioux of Green, Matt Mercier of Bowdoinham, Nicole LaChance of Lisbon Falls and Mariah Eno of Rumford Center.

McCuddy received an award in the amount of $600 from Art-Works, an after-school community based program, as well as a Dean’s Exhibition Award.

Rice was honored with a $100 award for honors in art education and a $300 award from ArtWorks.

Rioux and Mercier also received $100 awards for honors in art education.

The UMaine Museum of Art awarded LaChance $250.

Eno received the Elizabeth McDonald Book Award in the amount of $100.
