NORWAY — The Center for an Ecology-Based Economy will host its fifth annual 2030 Vision Climate Convergence on May 17 and 18 in downtown Norway under tents at the recreation park on Cottage Street. This year’s convergence, themed “Connect Catalyze Create,” will continue to build momentum for climate action in western Maine and beyond during this critical climate decade.

Building on previous years’ convergences, 2030 Vision will host local and state organizers, advocates, and experts to inspire action and strengthen Maine’s climate movement. The event, open to all, will focus on training organizers, building community, highlighting youth voices, and educating people about how to engage in local and statewide efforts.

CEBE is honored to welcome Steve Curwood, host of Living on Earth, to keynote on Saturday. On Friday, Dr. Susana Hancock, a polar scientist, will deliver the keynote. Each day will also include workshops on a broad range of climate-related topics. Friday’s workshops will include climate art activism, storytelling tools, intergenerational organizing, and climate education in schools, as well as a series of fast-paced PechaKucha presentations focused on climate solutions in the region.

Saturday’s workshops will cover bioregional regeneration, community flood resilience, the clean energy transition, and more. The event will include performances from local favorite Bandwich, Portland-based duo Signature Soul, and Sagittarius Rising. Each day will kick off with a hands-on skill share and end with a community art project.

“We’ve crafted an event that has something for everyone,” said Renee Igo, CEBE’s Communications Coordinator. “We’re welcoming you to join us to meet others in your community who are taking action on climate. It promises to be an exciting two days of power building, knowledge sharing, and inspiration.”

Attendees are welcome to attend the whole event or any part of it. Sliding scale pre-registration is required, and details can be found at ecologybasedeconomy.org. Lunch will be provided for attendees on Saturday and Sunday by the Gemini Cafe, and pizza from the wood-fired oven at the Alan Day Community Garden will be offered on Friday evening.
