Neree N. Simoneau

JAY – Neree N. Simoneau, 86, of Jay passed away suddenly, Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at his home. He was born Oct. 21, 1937, in Jay, the son of Neree V. and Marguerite (Arsenault) Simoneau.

He was a 1957 graduate of Jay High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1957 to 1960. During his time at Camp LeJune after returning from Okinawa, he was in an accident with three fellow Marines, when the car they were in went into the river, even though he tried to save his friends, he was the only survivor.

He married Brenda Wilkins, and had three daughters. He later married Sabra Taylor on August 15, 1991.

Neree worked as a heavy equipment operator at International Paper Company at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay until his retirement. He was a member of the International Paper Company Quarter Century Club, a member and former Commander of V.F.W. Frank L. Mitchell Post #3335 in Jay, and member of AMVETS Post #33 in Jay. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed wintering in Florida and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Sabra Simoneau of Jay; two daughters, Debra Allen and husband Gene of Jay, Julie Simoneau of Wilton, and stepdaughter, DeJanine Quimby of North Carolina; grandchildren, Brenda Marcotte and husband Steve, Chad Simoneau and wife Logan, and Sierra Webber, step-grandsons, Brandon and Nicholas Labbe; 14 great-grandchildren; and Neree’s brother, Emile Simoneau and wife Marie of Chesterville. He was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Cindy Simoneau; granddaughter, Jessica Simoneau, grandson, Lance Allen; and brother Raymond Simoneau.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 7 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 445 Park Street, Livermore Falls, Maine. A Celebration of Life Gathering at V.F.W. Post #3335, 64 Jewell Street, Jay, Maine will be held immediately following the graveside service.
