GREENWOOD — At the May 18 town meeting, Greenwood voters will choose for or against new cannabis ordinances for retail, manufacturing, testing and cultivation —Articles 25 through 28 on this year’s warrant.
Article 17 asks for $440,000 for capital improvements to Greenwood Road.
Under the reserve account Article 19 are the following requests: $34,500 for a 2027 reevaluation account; 75,000 each for the Highway Department Equipment Reserve and the Fire Department Equipment Reserve and $108, 484 for a fire department building reserve. Greenwood residents purchased 17 acres for a future fire station in Greenwood City on route 219 in 2022.
Also under the reserve account, but in a separate request is Article 20. It asks for $194,000 for a Komatsu 8-wheel loader, for the Highway Department.
According to Greenwood Town Manager Kim Sparks the current mil rate is 16.50; the estimated new mil rate is 17.50. This includes county, municipal and school budget.
The current municipal budget is $1,971,007; the proposed budget is $2,117,766. This does not include county and school budget. If everything passes at Town Meeting the change is $146,759 or 7.44%
Town meeting will be held 9 a.m. May 18 at the Legion Hall, 595 Gore Road, Greenwood.
