We only had a handful of correct answers for last week’s Mystery Photo of the Dominican Rectory at the corner of Bartlett and College streets in Lewiston, as seen from College Street. For some readers, the Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul at the right of the rectory was a dead giveaway. In a random drawing from the correct entries, David Linehan of Lewiston was picked as the winner of a $25 Hannaford Supermarket gift card. He told us, “One time there was a cross on top of the north side or backside of the Basilica 25 to 30 years ago. I was visiting a friend on Oak Street and there was a large thunderstorm coming through, and I observed through the window a lightning strike on the back of the Basilica and witnessed the cross exploding into pieces. I always wondered where those pieces ended up. Probably if one looked around in the area, they may still find remnants.”
