Joan L Caron

AUBURN – Joan L. Caron, 88, of Auburn passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Clover Health Care in Auburn, Maine after a lengthy illness. She has joined her husband of 70 years in eternal life after just eight months of his passing. She was born on Oct. 6, 1935 in Lewiston, daughter of the late Ronaldo and Adelia (Lapointe) Bertrand. She grew up in Lewiston and attended local schools.

On Nov. 11, 1953, she married Bertrand E. Caron of Lewiston after a courtship of three years and they started a family together. She met him as he delivered ice to homes and businesses, yelling to him with her sisters out the window as he worked on the below streets with his brothers at a mere 15 years old. She began working at an early age at local shoe factories and then worked as a domestic housewife cleaning non-stop known as having the cleanest house in town. She tended to her two children and her husband’s growing construction business. She later went back to work as a housekeeper and Nanny. She loved children and raised many besides her own. Her home was an open door to anyone in need and always had a full house.

She will be deeply missed by her daughters Nanci J. Caron and her partner William Cox. Brenda L. Giguere and her husband Raymond L. Giguere Jr. Her granddaughter Crystal M. Howes and her 3-great grand-children Bryson J. Howes, Adrianna J.L. Martinez, Divine K. Williams and unborn great, great-grandchild Khaleesi due in June.

She is survived by one sister Mary Ann Marston of Citrus Hills, Florida, and predeceased by six sisters Mrs. Edgar (Dorothy) Violette, Mrs. Rosaire (Muriel) Bechard, Mrs. Wilfrid (Therese) Doustout, Marie (Lil) Berry, Mrs. Roger (Bernice) Bertrand and one brother Ronaldo Bertrand and his wife Toni.

We would like to thank Clover Manor and Androscoggin Home and Hospice for the care and compassion they shared with Joan and her family while in their care.

There will be a committal service and prayers at St. Peters Cemetery large mausoleum in Lewiston on Friday May 24, at 2 p.m., to honor her life.
