JAY – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Robert Alan Whittemore, affectionately known as Bob, who peacefully left us on May 3, 2024, after bravely battling cancer. He was born on Sept. 3, 1950, in Farmington, to his loving parents, Wilfred and Eleanor Whittemore.
Bob’s life was a testament to resilience and service. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran during the Vietnam War, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to duty and honor.
A devout Christian, Bob found solace and strength in his faith. Bob had a passion for the simple joys of life. Whether he was ice fishing, crafting beautiful woodwork pieces, creating art through paintings and drawings, tending to a garden, or diving into challenging puzzles, he found happiness in these small moments. His love for spiritual growth was reflected in his dedication to reading the Bible and finding comfort in its pages.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred, and Eleanor, as well as his brothers, Lawrence, Patrick, and Michael, and his beloved son Joshua Whittemore. He is survived by his siblings, Scott, Wayne, Doug, Lisa, and Sharon, who will hold his memory close to their hearts.
Although a man of few words, it was known Bob’s greatest joys were found in the love of his family. He leaves behind his children: Lucas Whittemore of Livermore Falls, Michael Whittemore of Farmington, Lawrence Whittemore of Gorham; his cherished grandchildren, Joshlyn, Wilfred, Jeremy, Piper, Bailee, Quintin, Jade, Brooklynn, Alexa, and Cameron; and his great-grandchildren, Hansen, and Paxton.
As we mourn the loss of Bob, let us find comfort in the cherished memories shared. Rest in peace, Bob. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.
The family will be holding a gathering to honor Bob’s life at the Amvets Hall in Jay from 1-4 p.m., on Saturday May 18.
