Wayne’s Memorial Day observance is set for 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, in case of rain, the program will be at the Ladd Center at 11 a.m.

The Memorial Day committee invites all veterans to join the parade; they may ride or march.

Those who plan to drive a vintage car in the parade should call Rick Parker at 207-692-3039 by Saturday, May 25, to register for a place in the parade.

All participants will assemble at the Wayne Community Church parking lot, 22 Old Winthrop Road between 10:30-10:45 a.m. The parade will start at 11 a.m. from the parking lot and proceed to Main Street, continue on Main Street, turn around at Pond Road, then proceed to Memorial Park to continue a program.

The speaker will be U.S. Marine Corps veteran Sgt. Craig Grossi, author of “Craig and Fred” and “Second Chances,” where he recounts his experience of finding Fred the street dog in war-torn Afghanistan and how this changed his life. Grossi is a recipient of the Purple Heart and devotes his time to veteran organizations like the USA Warriors Ice Hockey Program and other nonprofits that benefit dogs and veterans.
