Althea J. Gillis

TURNER – On May 15, 2024, Althea Gillis left her beloved family for her heavenly home with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Lewiston to her late parents Alfred E. and Margaret L. (Parker) Gillis. Althea grew up in Turner and attended local schools. She worked many years as a bus driver for various school districts.

Althea adored the ocean and loved spending time on Bailey Island. She enjoyed reading, knitting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Althea was an active member of the Greene Baptist Church where she held a variety of roles. Her faith was important to her and sustained her throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda J. Ross and her husband Dana of Hampden, a son Philip R. Morse, Jr. and his wife Paula of Readfield. She was a proud grandmother to four grandchildren, Ethan Morency of Dover, NH, Tyler Morse and wife Genevieve of Greene, Margaret Ross and fiancee Benjamin Algeo of Portland, and Katheen Ross and partner Cole Blessinger of Indianapolis, Ind. Althea leaves behind two much loved first cousins Chuckie Gillis of Buckfield and Betty Sweetser of Turner. She was predeceased by her daughter, Katherine L. Morse and sister Judith Norton. She will be missed by all.

The family would like to thank the staff at Marshwood for the care and compassion in Althea’s last days.

There will be a graveside committal service celebrating Althea’s life at Gracelawn Memorial Park in Auburn, on Sunday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m.
