Joan L. Roy

LEWISTON – Joan L. Roy, 86, of Webber Avenue, Lewiston, passed away on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, surrounded by her children at Central Maine Medical Center, following a long illness. She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 6, 1938, the daughter of Leo and Jeannette Ruel Robitaille. She was educated at Holy Cross School, and was a graduate of Marie Joseph Academy in Biddeford, class of ‘56. Her love of the ocean most surely came from this time in her life.

Joan worked early on as a lab technician and then at various medical practices, greeting office patients and processing medical records or insurance billing. Joan loved working with her hands and spent much time gardening and landscaping around her yard. She was a skilled seamstress and loved knitting, reading, puzzles, playing bunco and going to the theater. Her joy was cooking, baking, and planning family Sunday dinners and holiday gatherings, as family meant the world to her. She spent time in her later years traveling to visit family and exploring new places to share memories.

A devout Catholic, Joan was a member of Holy Cross Church, Prince of Peace Parish. When she no longer could attend Masses, she quickly embraced home options and continued to receive Communion at home. Her deep faith was paramount to getting her through her later struggles.

She is survived by two sons, Daniel and wife Angela of Monmouth, and David of Lisbon, two daughters, Rachel of Plymouth, N.H., and Diane of Milford, N.H., two brothers Conrad Robitaille and wife Michelle of Lewiston, and Armand Robitaille of Southington, Conn., two sisters, Sister Gertrude Robitaille PM of Marlborough, Mass., and Claire Therriault and husband Raymond of Lewiston, grandchildren, Israel, Elijah, Joseph, Hannah, and Abigail and great-granddaughter, Scarlett.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Julien and Bertrand Robitaille.
