(L-R) Rotarians Ann Lasman, Lisa Ryan, Dave Barker, Dan Lansman, George Klauber and Rick Whelchel Build New Garden Beds at Bridgton Community Center

BRIDGTON — Seven Rotarians were at the Bridgton Community Gardens on Saturday, replacing several new raised garden beds. Ann and Dan Lasman were among them. The Bridgton residents are new Rotarians, having joined the Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club two months ago. Ann and Dan are involved with the Community Garden and asked if Rotary could support a project to replace deteriorating garden beds. “We knew that Rotary had sponsored projects at the garden in the past and hoped that the club could support this current project,” Ann said. Rotary asked Ann to outline the project, and its financial and volunteer support needs, which she did. The Club’s Community Services Committee agreed to fund the project and on Saturday Rotarians arrived at the BCC ready to go to work. After a few hours, the new beds were in place.

Collaboration was key for this project. The day before, a group of students from the Lake Region Vocational Center came by to take apart the old beds and set things up for the new ones.

The Bridgton-Lake Region Rotary Club is committed to service and seeks to support projects in the community. Many of the local projects are outgrowths of members’ dreams of making a difference in the region. Our partners generate some of our projects and others are created by members. “If you have a project and you’re looking for resources to implement it, contact your local Rotary Club”, said Dr. Lisa Ryan, who will be president of Bridgton Rotary as of July 1, 2024. “We may be as interested in such a project as well. However, sometimes you need to make a good case for it. But reach out to us at LakeRegionRotary@gmail.com.”

The local Club meets on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Thursdays of each month at 7:30 a.m. at Stella’s on the Square in Bridgton. Guests and new members are welcome. The club’s region includes the towns of Bridgton, Denmark, Harrison, Naples, Sweden, and Waterford. “If you live or work in any of these towns, we’d love to talk to you,” remarked Dave Barker, Chair of the Membership Committee.
