President Biden’s reelection campaign has announced a leadership team for its work in Maine.
The team includes BJ McCollister, who will serve as political director, and Amy Cookson, who will serve as communications director. Jonathan Asen and Matt Moonen have been named as senior advisers.
“Jonathan, Matt, BJ and Amy are proven leaders with deep Maine ties who will be critical to delivering the state for President Biden and Vice President (Kamala) Harris again this November,” Dan Kanninen, the Biden-Harris 2024 battleground states director, said in a statement.
“Mainers’ rights and fundamental freedoms are on the ballot this year, and this team is well-qualified to build on the momentum on the ground to help reelect President Biden and Vice President Harris.”
McCollister is the founder and president of the Resurgam Group, a political strategy and communications firm. He previously served as chief of staff to Maine Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, and worked on the Biden-Harris campaign in 2020 as Maine deputy state director.
Cookson worked as communications director at Maine Votes and Maine Voices Network and previously worked at Planned Parenthood Northern New England as director of innovation and external communications, and also has worked for Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, Maine Senate Democrats and the Maine Senate Democratic Campaign Committee.
Asen is a senior adviser at the Portland law firm Bernstein Shur. He previously was coordinated campaign director at the Maine Democratic Party, chief of staff to the Maine Speaker of the House and chief of staff and senior adviser to the director of legislative affairs at the White House.
Moonen is in his fifth term in the Maine House of Representatives, where he co-chairs the Judiciary Committee. He previously served on the Legislature’s Taxation Committee and as the House Majority Leader, as well as executive director of EqualityMaine.
