AUBURN — A motorcyclist was killed after the rider’s bike collided with a car on South Main Street early Friday night.

The crash occurred around 6 p.m. in a stretch of South Main Street between Vickery and South Witham roads.

“The initial investigation has determined that a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle collided with a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle while attempting to pull onto South Main Street from Witham Road,” police wrote in a news release.

Witnesses at the scene attempted to provide medical care to the downed motorcyclist, police said. However, the rider was pronounced dead shortly after rescue crews arrived.

The occupants of the Volkswagen were not seriously injured.

Police were not releasing the names of the victims Friday night.

Police shut down sections of South Main Street and South Witham Road as fire and rescue crews tended to the victims and an investigation into the cause of the crash got underway.
