100 Years Ago: 1924

County Commissioner Fred Leavitt, on his way from Turner to  Auburn, Monday morning found plowed ground frozen to a depth of a quarter of an inch. It was just like late Spring or early Fall so that when he walked over it there was a distinct crunching sound.

50 Years Ago: 1974

A group of Twin City newspaper carriers left for a weekend in Boston today after earning the trip during a recent carrier promotion contest sponsored by the Sun Journal Circulation Department.

The contest, which ended on May 20, was based on the number of new subscribers obtained by the carriers.

Those who won the trip are listed as follows: Journal Contest winners: Paul Gaudette, Derwood Haskell, Paul Obie, Dean Farrington, Fred Gibbins, Pat Lizotte, John Turcotte, Diane Breton, Mike Verreault, Mike Nadeau, Ronald Gauthier and Ronald Goulet. Sun Contest winners: David Dehetre, Philip Belanger, Randy Scott, Scott Massey, Roger Roy, Ronald Turcotte, James Morrison, James Moran, Daniel Bardier, Michael and David Deschenes, Robert  Martineau, Raymond Belanger, Michael Dube, Daniel Trembley, Robert Reed, and Daniel Gagnon.

25 Years Ago: 1999

Special Olympics Maine will raffle a 2000 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic during the Fall Festival of Sports Soccer Tournament on Oct. 9. Only 1,700 tickets are available at $20 each and are available through the Lewiston Police Department or by calling Special Olympics Maine. Proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Maine.

David Duval of Auburn, sitting on the bike, will compete in the 1999 World Games June 24 to July 5 in North Carolina.
