Eugene R. Langlais

LEWISTON – Eugene R. Langlais, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23, 2024 with his family by his side.

One of 15 children, he was born on Jan. 20, 1933, in Hamlin Plantation, Maine, to the late Denis and Melvina (Roy) Langlais. His siblings included 11 sisters, Georgette Reny, Mary Langlais, Simone Emond, Blanche Legendre, Pauline Thibault, Lucille Dehetre, Yvette Roux, Jeannine Poulin, Doreen Lebrun, and infant twins Rolande and Yolande, three brothers, Arthur Langlais, George Langlais, and Roderick Langlais.

On Aug. 8, 1953, he married the love of his life, Jeannette R. Blais, in Lewiston at Holy Cross Church.

Eugene was educated at St. Peter’s Elementary School and attended both St. Dominic and Lewiston High Schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He was a Third Degree Knight with the local Knights of Columbus and was an active member of Holy Cross Church.

Eugene worked as a milk delivery man for the family business, Blais Dairy, for eight years. He then worked for St. Mary’s and Marcotte Home managing the laundry department for 20 years. He finished his career working in real estate in the Lewiston area, remodeling and upgrading apartment buildings with his brother, George and brothers-in-law Bob Lagasse and Ray Dehetre.

Eugene was a strong and hardworking man who gave everything he had to his family. He was a man with great faith and was active in the church, school, and sport(s) community. You could always count on him to share great stories of his childhood “the dead-end kids,” his strong handshakes, traveling and dancing with Memere, and enjoying time with his family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need, and never expected anything in return.

He is survived by his son, Gerald Langlais of Lewiston and companion, Kim Clukey of Waterville, daughter, Lisa and her husband Richard Blanchard of Melbourne, Fla.; grandchildren, Laurie Lambert and her husband Justin of Sabattus, Audrey Sanicola and her husband Rob of Windham, Brian Langlais and his wife Jenna of Lewiston, Kayla Koss of Lewiston, Kameron Koss of Lewiston, Chelsey Riston and her husband Kenny of Melbourne, Fla., Courtney Lipinski of Melbourne, Fla.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Robbie and Charlie Sanicola, Ben Lambert, Ava, Julia, Britton, and Everett Langlais, Vivian and Kenny Jr. Riston, and Mia and Jack Lipinski.
