GREENWOOD — National corn hole tournaments are coming to Greenwood.
The Jackson-Silver Post 68 American Legion on Gore Road will begin hosting professional corn hole in their Great Hall sometime this summer.
The 5,000 square foot hall with a commercial kitchen has been host to Friday night bingo, Greenwood town meetings, craft fairs, and dances and now will be transformed into five cornhole lanes with ten players competing.
“Use of the hall allows us to raise funds through donations to not only pay operating expenses, but to give back to veterans, their families as well as like-minded community events, like scholarships. We are a 501-C (19) Veterans Organization and like others in business, over time you need to think outside the box to move forward, and that is how we came up with the idea to add cornhole tournaments to our event calendar.
“Cornhole tournaments are amazingly popular,” said Legion member Lee Christianson, who added that this will give players a rain or shine option.
Once the teams come together they will offer round robins, single eliminations, and charity events.
With the boards nearly completed the team will have a dry run in early to test the equipment.
