To the Editor:
I’m Joan Beal, running for Representative for District 81 in the Maine Legislature. As a mother, grandmother, retired teacher, former foster parent, church member, and past caregiver for my mother and husband, I have seen the strengths and needs of the communities I am a part of.
As an active citizen in the town of Norway, serving on town committees and non-profit organizations, I have seen the potential of what good government and respectful communities can provide. I love Maine. I love the Oxford Hills and feel the time has come for all of us to step up to shape Maine’s future.
So much has been done and so much to do! We need sustainable, thriving communities serving all people, a tax system that requires the wealthiest to pay their fair share, resources for small, rural communities that are experiencing unprecedented effects of severe weather, both on infrastructure and budgets, and guarantees that every person’s right to reproductive health and safety is protected.
Come meet me and others from District 81 at my launch party, on June 16, from 3-5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Norway. Get to know me and let me know what issues are important to you. If you can’t make it, I hope you will vote for me in November and voice your concerns and questions during this campaign season.
Joan Beal

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
