RUMFORD — Mountain Valley swept its way out of the Class C South girls tennis preliminary round and into the regional quarterfinals with a 5-0 win over Madison on Friday.
The result the same as how the seventh-seeded Falcons (8-3) started the season: beating the 10th-seeded Bulldogs (4-7) in all five matches.
Mountain Valley, which has now won seven of its last eight matches after starting the season 1-2, faces No. 2 Waynflete (10-2) in next week’s quarterfinals.
The Falcons had already clinched Friday’s match by the time No. 1 singles player Ella Young took the court. Young proceeded to win 6-0, 6-3 to close out the postseason victory.
The doubles tandems made quick work in their respective matches. Nevaeh D’Angelo and Olivia Pitcher won 6-0, 6-0, and Abby Jones and Mariya Gammon picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory. In the other singles matches, Vera Dolitski won 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the Falcons’ third point, and Rhashya Kamel came out on the victorious side of a 6-4, 6-4 match.
