AUGUSTA – Charles William Newbury passed away with his family by side on May 1, 2024, at VA Togus Hospice House after a 15-year battle with cancer. Charlie was born Sept. 7, 1946, in Puducah, Ky., to Samuel Newbury and Ann Aurea (Lobsinger) Newbury.

He was the second of five children including his elder brother Samuel, sisters, Jeanette and Sharon, and youngest brother Michael. Charlie enlisted in the Army during the Vietnam War and served his country herocially, having been awarded the purple heart among other commendations.

He was a beloved Father, Papa, friend, and Brother. His legacy of unconditional love and steadfast support will live on in his grandchildren, whom he loved above all else.

He is survived by his daughters, Heidi McKay and Heatherangel Libby, his son Jason Newbury, his brother Sam Newbury, and his grandchildren, Austin Strout, Quintin McKay, Galen Libby, Carys Libby, and Janiah McKay.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Sharon, Jeanette, and Michael, as well as his wife Donna Newbury. Services will be held at VA National Cemetery at Togus on June 4, 2024, at 2 p.m.
