John David Sennett Sr.

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – John David Sennett, Sr., 84, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2024.

John was born on Sept. 28, 1939 a son of the late Raymond E. Sennett and Etta (Knight) Sennett in Turner Center. He graduated from Leavitt Institute and The University of Maine at Orono, where he was a Phi Mu Delta fraternity member.

He received a full scholarship to Duke University Law, but the Vietnam war changed his direction. During his two tours of duty, he served as an Executive Officer, Information Officer, Intelligence Officer, Border Pilot, and lead Huey Pilot. He was a Captain with the 71st AHC assigned to the 145th Battalion, 12th Aviation Group.

John was predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Janie Caroline Cagle Sennett; his brothers Raymond E. Sennett, Jr., of Waterville, Roger K. Sennett, of Minot, Robert L. Sennett, of Holliston, Mass., and his sister, Rosalea Sennett Farnum, of Lewiston.

John is survived by his three children, John David Sennett, Jr. (Laura) of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Raymond Robert Chason Sennett (Georgette Thompson) of Raleigh, N.C., and Rhonda Caroline Sennett (William Brown) of Raleigh, N.C.; and one granddaughter, Aniston Jane Sennett of Raleigh, N.C.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday June 18 at 12 p.m., with Rev. Susan Elliott Kimball officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Turner.
