Maxine (Briggs) Buzzell
VIENNA – Maxine (Briggs) Buzzell, 79, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024, after succumbing to dementia. Maxine was born on March 1, 1945, in Lewiston to Richard Briggs and Dorothy Badger. Maxine worked in the Lewiston shoe shop in her early years. Later she worked at L.C. Dill Center and Augusta Mental Health.
Maxine was an area coordinator for Somerset County Special Olympics. She received a Volunteer Award of the year from Mrs. Kennedy Shriver, as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award through the Special Olympics.
Maxine is survived by her husband, Jayson Buzzell of 24 years; her sister, Joanne Grignon and her life partner, John Kelly of Machias; her four children, Vanessa Greenleaf and her husband, Robert of Winslow, Vincent Briggs and his wife, Ellen of Madison, Veronica Overlook and her husband, Alex of Winslow, and Vance Briggs of Frostproof Fla.; Maxine also leaves behind her special little dog Buddy. Maxine was a grandmother to nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her father, Richard, her mother, Dorothy; and her grandson, Clint James Briggs.
The family wants to thank the nurses and staff at Maine Medical Health Center fifth floor staffing.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
