Rosaire A. Charest

AUBURN – It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Rosaire A. Charest, who left us on June 10, 2024, at the age of 94. Surrounded by his family in his final moments, he was a man of immense humor and wisdom, cherishing every moment spent with his family.

Rosaire was born in Lewiston on Feb. 25,1930, the son of Thomas and Amanda Charest. He attended Holy Family School and after graduating from Lewiston High School he joined the U.S. Navy. He served on many aircraft carriers including the USS Oriskany as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean Conflict. Back in Maine, he served at Brunswick Naval Air Station until his honorable discharge in 1953.

After the Navy, he worked for Pepperell Manufacturing Fabrics until its closing. He then was appointed Office Manager at the Lewiston Water Department where he worked for 25 years until his retirement.

On April 27, 1957, he married Claudette Jeannine Casavant and was married for 67 years until his passing. Together they had three sons: Thom and his husband Tom Dunker of Vero Beach, Florida, Jeff and his wife Mary of Lewiston and Jim and his wife Debbie of Windham. He had five grandchildren, Alicia Nichols and husband Jordan, Megan Charest, Matthew Charest, Noah Charest and Mackenzie Charest, and one great-grandchild Brooklyn Nichols. Rosaire was also survived by his sister, Rita LePage of Vero Beach, Florida. 

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 15 brothers and sisters.

During his retirement he enjoyed time at the lake, traveling to Florida and playing cards and dominos with his family. He will be sadly missed.

Visitation will be held at the Albert & Burpee Funeral Home on Friday, June 14, 2024, from 9-10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. that will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Lewiston. Committal prayers will follow in the large chapel of the mausoleum at St. Peter’s Cemetery, also in Lewiston.
