Rose Anna Gammon
BUCKFIELD – Rose Anna Gammon, 81, of Buckfield went peacefully home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at her home in North Buckfield after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born March 10, 1943 to Marion Jack Crockett and John Walter Crockett in Lewiston. She was educated in the Buckfield school system where she enjoyed cheerleading and other school activities and where she met the love of her life, Roland Gammon of Sumner.
The fall after her graduation, she and Roland were married on Sept. 2, 1961. Rose was employed at Livermore Shoe until she and Roland had their first son, Tracy in 1963 when Rose opted to be a stay-at-home mom. Shortly after, they purchased their home in North Buckfield in 1963. In 1966, Roland’s job with the paper mill took them to New York where their second son, Dennis was born. The family returned home to Buckfield in 1967 where they raised their two sons. After the boys had finished school, Rose Anna re-joined the work force with a job as a cook in the cafeteria at the Buckfield High School. In 2004, tragedy struck when their youngest son was in a devastating car accident that left him paralyzed from the neck down. Rose and Roland lovingly and sacrificially took care of Dennis until his passing in 2010.
Rose was an extremely talented woman with many skills and hobbies. She was an expert at gardening, canning, preserving food, and cooking as well as sewing, knitting and crocheting. She and Roland put a lovely pool in their backyard in 1973 which she enjoyed with her friends and family for the rest of her life. She loved her flower gardens, traveling in their RV, and going for rides in their beautifully restored 1956 red and white Crown Victoria they bought in 1962. Rose and Roland enjoyed their last ride in it together shortly before her passing. The love Rose had for her grandchildren will long be remembered. Her favorite scripture verse is the 23rd Psalm. Rose will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Rose is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Roland Gammon; her son, Tracy Gammon and his wife Lisa; her sister, Alice Allen; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara Crockett Hewins; her parents Marion and John Crockett; her son, Dennis Gammon; great-granddaughter, Chloe Lee Packard; and her brother, Lester Crockett.
Graveside service for the public will be held Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at the Damon Cemetery in North Buckfield followed by refreshments and remembrances at the Buckfield Legion Hall.
