Ivan Granville Burtis

LEWISTON – Ivan Granville Burtis, 79, of Lewiston, died after a long battle with C.O.P.D. on Father’s Day, June 16, 2024.

He was born in Hayward, Calif. on Jan. 20, 1945, a son to Cecile Burtis and Mary Jane Rohn. He was married to Marie Jane Burtis for 41 years until her death on Jan. 5, 2011. He served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years before he retiring and relocating to Maine where he continued working for another 20 years at the Androscoggin County Jail.

He liked working on cars, woodworking, camping and deep sea fishing. He enjoyed his wife’s cooking, particularly, her fried gizzards and shake n’ bake pork chops. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and all of his buddies at the Post 153 American Legion.

He leaves behind his children, Romeo Burtis of Alabama, John Burtis of Lewiston and daughter, Catherine Burtis, of Lewiston. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, his best buddy, Nicholas of Lewiston, Ryan, Shelby and Wyatt of Alabama, Bianca of Lewiston; and great-grandaughter, Kinsley.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marie J. Burtis; parents Cecile and Mary Jane, in-laws Romeo and Catherine Parent; and brothers; nieces and nephews.

Family and friends please to share memories, pictures, laughs, and stories of Dad, as there will not be a service; however, there will be a head stone located at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Auburn, as he will be buried next to his wife.
