There Goes Ted Williams, the Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived
By Matt Tavares
This amazingly illustrated and beautifully written junior, picture biography, There Goes Ted Williams, is a delightful read for youth and adults, offering lots of interesting information about Ted William’s life with few words.
Imagine being only 17 years of age and being asked to play for the New York Yankees. He was, but… Ted’s mother would not sign the contract for him to join the Yankees as the team was in New York and his family lived in San Deigo, California; his mom did not want him to be so far away. Ted continued to play, however for a local league in California.
In 1937, at the age of just 19, he signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox and did become the “greatest hitter that ever lived” . In one game, he hit 9 home runs!
Read this engaging book to learn how Ted Williams visualized being a great hitter, what he chanted when practicing, why he was bullied as a child, what 2 major events in his life interfered with his baseball career, and what he was brilliant at other than being a great hitter.
Matt Tavares hit a home run when he wrote, illustrated, and published, There Goes Ted Williams. Enjoy.
