The tower clock which was purchased by the city of Lewiston in 1922 and placed in the turret of the United Baptist Church on Main Street has been out of active service for the past month.
The two large hands, caught in some unaccountable manner, have defied the attempts of the janitor of the building and a local jeweler to repair them and now await the arrival of a special representative of the Howard Watch Co., Boston, where the clock was purchased under a 5-year guarantee.

It started out as just another homework assignment.
Twelve-year old Montello elementary school student Jessie McNally really wanted to go outside and play. But she sat at the kitchen table and started thinking about her assignment: Come up with a slogan for the city of Lewiston.
She thought and thought then all of a sudden slogans started coming from everywhere. Before she was done she had12 of them. But one was by far the best.
And now city officials have adopted Jessie’s words as their new motto :”Lewiston…Setting the Pace!” The slogan will be printed on letterheads and most official documents.
The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
