Historical Society

PARIS — The July 18 monthly meeting of the Paris Cape Historical Society will feature a presentation by Chuck Martin. It will be a look back at 1949 when 3,000 Boy Scouts converged on the county fairgrounds for the largest jamboree in that period. The weekend event saw a large parade and activities by the many scout troops that gathered. The program starts at 7 p.m. at the PCHS Porter House at 77 High Street in south Paris. It is free and open to the public, with refreshments to follow.

We are mourning the recent passing of our longtime curator, Ben Conant. Ben’s warm personality and decades-long devotion to Paris history will long be remembered by those who knew him. We will devote our Aug. 15 monthly meeting to remembering him and his role in the PCHS. More information on this plan will be provided as the date approaches. Check our Facebook page for updates.
