LEWISTON — Fire crews doused a garage fire Friday afternoon on Fair Street but a family of four was temporarily displaced by the blaze.
At about 1:30 p.m., fire crews were called to 79 Fair St. for a report of a building ablaze. When they arrived, crews found the detached garage fully consumed by fire.
The family who lives in the home escaped with their pets and there were no injuries. Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze, but the garage was destroyed and flames had swept toward the single-story home, causing moderate damage to a bedroom at the rear of the house, fire officials said.
The family will be temporarily displaced, officials said, while repairs are made.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation later Friday. The blaze did not appear to be suspicious, fire officials said.
Fair Street runs parallel to Montello Street between College Street and Central Avenue.
