100 Years Ago: 1924
Petting parties on Lewiston City Park and about the new armory building are becoming a nuisance, according to members of the Lewiston police department. The arms of girls, draped about the shoulders of youthful automobile drivers is also getting to be a common sight. Farms on the outskirts of the city where beer or cider is sold is believed to be the cause of the latter parties.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Mr. and Mrs. Maglorie Levesque, Hardscrabble Road, Auburn, recently celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at a party held at the Auburn Maine School of Commerce Gymnasium. Three daughters were hostesses at the affair, Lucille, wife of Vincent Nargot of Los Angeles; Yvette, wife of Harry Nadeau of Miramar, Florida, and Carmen, wife of Edgar Levesque of Auburn.
25 Years Ago: 1999
On Thursday Minnie LaRoche and her brother Robert Stone returned to the Bates Mill for the first time since they worked there in the 1960’s.
They came to see what the city is doing to revive the aged textile mill.
“It’s fabulous what they’ve done, and I think they should do the whole nine yards,” said 75 year old LaRoche at the end of the hour-and-a-half tour. “I think it was worth seeing. This whole area is beautiful.”
