LEWISTON – Marc Croteau, 68, of 124 Western Ave., Auburn, passed away unexpectedly yet peacefully after a 1-year battle with ALS in the evening hours of Friday, July 19, 2024, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Born in Lewiston on November 25, 1955, to the late Denis and Mariette Croteau, he lived as a lifelong resident of Auburn, with a limited time spent working in the banking business in the Boston area. He attended Sacred Heart School, Webster Junior High, and was a 1973 graduate of Edward Little High School. A fine athlete in his younger years, Marc developed an interest in music during high school in which he quickly became an accomplished saxophonist, earning him a place in the MacDonald’s All-State Band, traveling with that group to play in Europe. From there, Marc transitioned his talents to the piano where he cultivated a lifelong love for the craft and the entire music community. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the famed New England Conservatory, and continued thereafter at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, both in Boston. He taught piano, accompanied bands, played local clubs, events, and restaurants. For the last 18 years, he was the featured piano player at the White Barn Inn of Kennebunkport, playing to the delight of Presidents, entertainers, and countless repeat patrons at “The Barn.”

Marc was a well-known and beloved Auburnite, who had a deep love for hiking, biking, photography, and mountain climbing. Marc always found time to invest in the lives of others, once and again jumping in to help any and all who were facing the varied challenges of this life’s journey. He extended himself unselfishly and was dearly loved and respected for his caring sacrifices.
