Jo Northrop Thomas, originally from New York, came to the Oxford Hills in 1977. She is known for her White Birch series of collages made from tissue paper and actual white birch bark from her camp on Lake Pennesseewassee. Jo will be demonstrating this process at the First Friday reception on August 2. The reception is from 5-7 p.m. at 426 Main Street in Norway.

 

NORWAY — The Western Maine Art Group and the Main Street Gallery are pleased to announce Jo Northrop Thomas is the First Friday artist in August. The gallery is located at 426 Main Street in Norway.

Jo is originally from New York but made her home in the Oxford Hills Area in 1977. She is known for her White Birch Series of collages made from tissue paper and actual white birch bark from her camp on Lake Pennesseewassee.  She learned this art form at a workshop in Northern Georgia in 2014 and now has created more than 106 collages.

She attended the State University of New York at Potsdam, the University of Southern Maine, the University of Maine at Augusta, and the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point majoring in fine arts and the humanities.

Jo’s art can be found at the Main Street Gallery in Norway, several galleries in Burlington, VT, and throughout homes across the Continental U.S., Hawaii, and Europe.
