Elizabeth Anne Tufts (Libby) Goodrich
AUBURN – Elizabeth Anne Tufts (Libby) Goodrich died after a short illness on Monday, July 15, 2024, surrounded by family. Born in Lewiston on June 28, 1928, she valued most the close relationships her family members still enjoy.
Libby graduated from Lewiston High School and earned a B.A. in Home Economics from the University of Maine-Orono, where she met her beloved husband Barkley. Among Libby’s other chief delights were interior decorating, sewing and fashion, gardening, travel, music, and convivial social life. In Connecticut, she devotedly tutored students at the Rectory School. She found current events endlessly fascinating, keeping up with the news and especially basketball, with UConn and the Golden State Warriors her favorites.
Preceding her in death were her parents George and Annie Hellen Tufts, sister Virginia and brother-in-law Joseph Chaplin, husband Barkley, and nephews James and William Chaplin. She is survived by children, Peter (Margaret) Goodrich, Martha Goodrich, Susan (Gary) Goodrich Lerner, Jonathan (Betsy) Goodrich; grandchildren, Andrew Goodrich and Katrina (P.J.) Goodrich Bouchard, Penny and Geoffrey (Stephanie) Lerner, Jacob Preble and Eliza (Alex) Preble Cutter, Susannah, Hugh and Kate Goodrich; five great-grandchildren, and nieces, Anne (David) Chaplin Gould and Sarah Chaplin Isaacson.
A committal service will be at the Lakeview Cemetery in Oakland, Maine, on a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be given to First Parish Church in Brunswick, or Hospice House in Auburn.
