Burton W. Donnell

LEEDS – Burton Walter Donnell, 72, of Leeds, passed away unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 23, 2024, due to an accident in the woods at his home.

He was born Sept. 25, 1951, in Bath, the son of Walter Owen Donnell and June Maud (Mitchell) Donnell. In 1970, moved to River Road in Leeds. He graduated from Morse High School in 1970. Burton briefly attended University of Maine in Orono for agriculture. He worked at Highmore Farm in Monmouth, Saunders Florist in Lewiston for several years, then Decoster’s in Leeds and Turner. He retired at 62, to take care of his mother.

Burton was an outdoorsman, a naturalist, and ate off the land. He loved to eat out with family and working in the woods with his tractor. He enjoyed listening to classical music and did a lot of reading, from which he gained much knowledge. He also enjoyed skiing, ice skating, biking along trails, gathering herbs, teaching others about them and making his own tea.

He is survived by his sister, Brenda Gould and husband Ken of Wayne; his uncle, Burton M. Mitchell of Leeds; cousins; nieces, nephews; and great-niece and great-nephew.

He was predeceased by his parents; and brother, Owen Donnell.

A celebration of life for Burton and Owen will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Leeds Community Church, 123 Church Hill Rd., Leeds. Interment, River Grove Cemetery, River Road, Leeds
