Kenneth I. Smith Sr.
GREENE – Kenneth I. Smith Sr., 89, a resident of Greene, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at his home with his loving family by his side. His family remembers him as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. He was a caring and giving individual to his community and church. Kenneth was born April 16, 1935, in Monmouth, the son of George Clinton Smith and Dorothy Ellen (Frost) Smith. He was educated in the Monmouth schools. Kenneth was a chef and baker, working for Bates College and the Holiday Inn. He loved baking cakes for all occasions. On May 21, 1955, in Greene at the Greene Baptist Church, he married Rita Arlene Draper. They made their home in Greene where they raised their children, Mary Jane and Kenneth, Jr. He was a faithful member of the Greene Baptist Church, and he volunteered for many years for the Greene Food Pantry. Kenneth enjoyed gardening, watching the Boston Red Sox and Gunsmoke on television. But most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Rita Smith, a daughter, Mary Jane Leonard and husband Kevin, a son Kenneth I. Smith, Jr. and wife Sue all of Greene, six grandchildren, Travis, Lance and Alanna Leonard, Drake, Kyle and Adam Smith, four great grandchildren, Chace, Lucas, Teagan and Aviana, along with many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was predeceased by his parents, seven brothers, Roger, Robert, Raymond, Roland, Fred, Ralph and Milton Smith; and four sisters, Alberta Tapley, Amber S. McCabe, Frances McCabe and Constance Buckley. The family would like to thank the staff of Marshwood Nursing Home and Andwell Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful care Kenneth received. Funeral services will be held 3PM, Friday, August 16, 2024, at the Greene Baptist Church, 102 Main Street, Greene, Maine 02436. Visitation will be at 2PM, 1 hour prior to the service. Arrangements by BRAGDON-FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 707 Main Street, Monmouth, Maine.
