100 Years Ago: 1924
Among the delegates attending the convention of the Ladies of the G. A. in Boston was Mrs. Emily Nash, 93 years old, representing Barnside Circle of Auburn. She is a daughter of the late Sir William Trevylian of London and is proud of the fact that she was born in a log cabin at the foot of Mt. Abram in Franklin County. Her husband was a captain in Company 1, Maine.
She wore badges of many National conventions and when asked if the excitement of travelling so far and seeing such large numbers of people did not weary her, she replied: “Oh, no, I grow twenty years younger after every single convention.
When Mrs. Mary E. Tarbox, Maine, a past president, presented Mrs. Nash this morning, everybody rose and there was long continued applause.
50 Years Ago: 1974
An Auburn attorney and city councilman is reportedly “in the lead” among the candidates for nomination as Maine Superior Court judge. He is Atty. Jack O. Smith of 46 Lake St., a partner in the law firm of Trafton, Scales and Smith.
25 Years Ago: 1999
The Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce hosted a pie-cutting ceremony on July 22 for Betabake Products, a Lewiston-based company that manufactures and produces Pie Savers. A Pie Saver is a molded aluminum foil ring that covers the edge of a pie to prevent the crust from burning while the pie is baked. It was invented three years ago by Lewiston native Nancy Beaule.
