Ivan R. Fifield

AUBURN – Ivan Roy Fifield, 93, of Mechanic Falls, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024 at the Hospice House in Auburn with his family by his side. Ivan was born in Mechanic Falls on March 10, 1931 the son of Carl R. Fifield and Florence (Keene) Fifield.

He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1949. In 1950, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in combat in Korea from December 1950 to November 1951 where he was wounded twice. He received the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. In 1953, he was discharged with the rank of S.F.C.

On July 9, 1954, he married Pearl M. Paradis. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Together they enjoyed dancing, bowling, walking, and playing bingo. Ivan enjoyed eating out, playing cards with family and friends, taking long car rides, getting lost along the way, and taking bus trips. But most of all, he enjoyed his family. Ivan could never get enough of seeing his boys and their families and friends. Seeing his great grandkids, and being a Papa, brought great joy to his life. Ivan took great pleasure in taking his sister out for a day of fun whenever he could.

Ivan was a past commander and lifetime member of the American Legion Post #150 for 57 years; as a devoted member, he was also in charge of bingo for his post for many years. He was a member of The Forty & Eight for 45 years, and a lifetime member of the DAV.

He retired from CMP in 1994 and went on to work part-time for Morgan’s Napa store in Auburn. He spent several winters enjoying the warm sunny days in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Ivan leaves behind his wife, Pearl; and two sons David and his wife Cathy of Stoneham and Dale of Mechanic Falls; three grandchildren Matthew and his wife Tricia of Mechanic Falls, Courtney and her husband Dave Levesque of Mechanic Falls and Korrin Fifield of Lewiston; six great grandchildren Isaac, Liam and Sadie Fifield, and Nyah, Marleigh and Landen Levesque; along with many nieces, nephews and close family friends.

He was predeceased by his son Deane: two brothers Merle Ellingwood and Lester Fifield; four sisters Margaret Brissette, Geneva Hackett, Ruth Bean and Abbie McKendrick; sister-in-law Estelle Ellingwood; brothers-in-law Cliff McKendrick and William Hackett; and his furry friend Mitzy.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, August 23 at 10 a.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mechanic Falls. Reception immediately following at the American Legion Post #150, 41 Elm Street, Mechanic Falls. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 26 W.
