Susan J. Sylvester

LIVERMORE – Susan J. Sylvester, 69, of Livermore, passed away Monday, August 19, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Susan was born January 4, 1955, in Farmington, the daughter of John E. Mitchell and Eleanor C. (Burgess) Mitchell. She was a 1973 graduate of Livermore Falls High School. Susan worked at Forster manufacturing for several years, until a coworker set her up on a blind date with Andrew Sylvester who she married May 5, 1996. They welcomed a son a year later, who they would follow through sports, scouting, and were proud to see him earn his Eagle rank in scouting. Through the years, she served as a den mother, was a member of the Livermore Falls Women’s Club. She also enjoyed substituting at the primary and elementary schools. Most recently she worked at the Livermore Town Office. She was a talented seamstress and crafter, even making her own wedding dress, and making dolls for nieces. She and her husband enjoyed the theater, especially Lakewood and took several trips to New York, once with front row seats to the Rockettes Christmas show. Their victory lap was her trip in September to see the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Susan always looked forward to family reunions and organizing the kids games. She enjoyed hosting children from NYC as a part of the Fresh Air Fund Program for several years. She is survived by her husband, Andrew Sylvester of Livermore, son Stephen Sylvester and wife Chantel of Jay, granddaughter Marion Belle Sylvester, three sisters, Patricia Nichols of Livermore Falls, Betty Tyler of Jay, Cynthia Mitchell of Jay, five brothers, Blaine Mitchell of Livermore Falls, Paul Mitchell and wife Gina of Fort Myers, Fla., Duane Mitchell and wife Doreen of Jay, Brian Mitchell and wife Diane of Rumford, Kenneth Mitchell and partner Pat Nurse of Farmington. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Paula Mitchell, Linda White, brothers Richard, Sheldon (Jimmy), Lauriston, Dennis. In-laws Lawrence Nichols, Dennis Nichols, Patricia Mitchell, Eugene Sylvester, and mother and father in-law Stephen and Geneva Sylvester. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Moose Hill Cemetery, Record Road, Livermore Falls, Maine.
