DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m asking our community for a favor. My father was Thomas Kerrigan. He owned a company called Wade & Dunton. He passed away during my time in the service around 2003, and I don’t have a lot to remember him by. Is there anyone out there who has any company memorabilia (I don’t really know what else to call it), especially any items that may have his name on them? It’s doubtful, I know, but if any photos of him exist out there, they would be priceless to me. Thank you for the help of anyone out there able to point me in a good direction to find out more. — Brandon, no town
ANSWER: Have you looked at the Sun Journal archives (https://www.sunjournal.com/archive-access/ ) for photos and articles? DEAR SUN SPOTS: I miss the days when it was common for restaurants to have salad bars. I know Ruby Tuesday (the few that still exist) has an excellent one, but that’s all I know of. Are there any other restaurants here in Maine that have a good salad bar?
I’m located in Bridgton but happy to travel this beautiful state for a fulfilling lunch! — No name, no town
ANSWER: I have thought about this recently too! Sadly, many eateries discontinued salad bars during the pandemic and haven’t brought them back. I did some searching around and found Warren’s Lobster House at 11 Water St. in Kittery (439-1630) as one place to trek too but call first to be sure. DaVinci’s used to have a salad bar… can readers tell me if it still does? I’m sure there are others, and perhaps some Chinese buffets still have their salads as part of their offerings. Let’s hear from readers who are salad bar fans!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: As the go-to resource for about everything, you provide an invaluable service. My question is, do you know of any organization in the Lewiston-Auburn area that accepts gently used, clean stuffed animals? — Polly, Lewiston
ANSWER: I would think most thrift stores would accept them if they are laundered, fresh-smelling and in good condition. Places that come to mind are The Leeds Community Church Clothing Closet (524-5444), The Androscoggin Hospice Thrift Store in Auburn (312-5092), Hidden Treasures in Lewiston (333-1500), and Goodwill in Auburn (783-1702).
Another place to check in with is the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society (783-2311). I think they would accept them, as dogs and kitties like stuffies as comfort items as well.
Let us know if there are other places that would help these pre-loved stuffed items find new people (or pets)!
