100 Years Ago: 1924
Threatening letters have been received by Merrit I. Harris of Minot, a Lewiston Remnant Co. employee who was assaulted as he entered upon the day’s work Wednesday.
Mr. Harris states that the writer or writers of these letters has continually written that unless he got through at the Lewiston Remnant Co., where he is in charge of the drapery department the writer would “get” him.
Mr. Harris would not divulge the contents of the letters nor state whom he suspected but he is understood to have given this information to the police.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Lewiston Comprehensive High School will have a Brazilian face among its ranks, as a 16-year old student from the country will be staying with a local family this year while she attends LCHS.
Clenide Protasi, of Natal, Brazil, will be living with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gordon, of 6 Champlain Ave. According to Geneva Kirk, who heads the state-wide placement service for the sponsoring Partners of America organization, Clenide wanted to come to Maine because she was interested in Scouting.
The Gordon family was chosen because their daughter Gail, 16 and a junior at LCHS, is active in the Scouts. Clenide will also be a junior.
