James Albion “Jim” Ross

AUBURN – James Albion “Jim” Ross, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2024, at Hospice House in Auburn. Born on Jan. 3, 1936, in Lisbon, he was the son of Levi M. Ross and Josephine T. (Wrenn) Ross. Jim was a lifelong resident of Lisbon, where he spent his formative and final years on the family’s dairy farm on River Road.

Jim dedicated his career to the local paper mills, along with Pejepscot Paper in Topsham and concluding at International Paper in Lisbon Falls.

Jim cherished the history of Lisbon, often sharing stories, historical documents, and photographs with others, especially the younger generations. His passion for poetry was profound, with many hours spent crafting verses that captured the essence of significant life moments. Additionally, Jim had a profound love for Bluegrass music. An animal lover at heart, as a young man he had many pets, like groundhogs, porcupines, a flying squirrel, and even an owl. As a boy he was recognized in the local paper for his ability to bond with Maine’s wildlife. More recently he found himself in the news again highlighting his run-in with a rabid fox. Jim is survived by his sons James Ross Jr. and his wife Sarah of Washington State, and Jeffrey Ross of Lisbon Falls, daughters Cynthia Ross LaChance of Saco, and Christina Porter of Lisbon. He also leaves behind several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara J. (Cox) Ross; son, Dale A. Ross; sister, Mary Proulx and brother, Levi Ross.

The arrangements are under the care of Crossman’s Funeral Home, located on Main St., Lisbon Falls. Jim’s life and legacy will be remembered fondly by all who knew him as a dedicated family man, a diligent worker, and a cherished member of his community.
