100 Years Ago: 1924
Four generations of the Hackett family attended the golden wedding anniversary party of Mr. and Mrs. George Hackett of Bowdoinham, held Sunday at the family homestead in the eastern part of the town. George Hackett and Hattie Campbell were married fifty years ago, August 23,1874, in the town of Bowdoinham.
The affair was very informal, with a picnic dinner planned by the guests. A wedding cake was one of the features.
50 Years Ago: 1974
Nearly 100 persons attended FLY ME, a model rocket meet held yesterday at the Lewiston Athletic Park.
The meet, sponsored by the Associated Lewiston-Auburn Rocket Models (ALARM), featured three events and was considered a huge success by its organizers.
25 Years Ago: 1999
Hawaii Gov. Ben Cayatano has named Joline Labbe as Emergency Registered Nurse of the Year. Labbe, a Lewiston High School graduate, was recognized for her dedicated service to the community, particularly her work with Oahu’s homeless people.
She was also recognized for providing outstanding service to the state’s emergency medical services system.
Labbe is the daughter of Claire and Al Fontaine of Lewiston and is a graduate from the Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing.
