100 Years Ago: 1924
The will of Robert A. Dunning of Freeport, who died Aug. 15, provides that his mare, Kitty, shall never again wear a harness, and provision is made that eventually a veterinarian shall be employed to put an end to the animal and see that she is decently buried.
50 Years Ago: 1974
At the end of next week the oil soaked hay and seaweed, gathered from the beaches of Casco Bay after a recent oil spill there, will be burned; and an Auburn firm is presently building the equipment which will take care of the gooey mess without further harm to the environment.
Headed by master oil burner mechanic and electrician, Larry Morin of Auburn, the Harry Nason Heating and Oil Burner Co. is building an anti-pollution burner for the McKin Co. in Gray.
25 Years Ago: 1999
Poland Spring Bottling Co. starts construction next week on its new water bottling plant in Hollis after getting final approval from the state and the town’s planning board.
