Gerard “Jerry” R. Belanger

AUBURN – Gerard “Jerry” R. Belanger, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, 86, passed away quietly on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, at his Auburn, home following an extended illness.

Born in Lewiston on Jan. 19, 1938, to the late Joseph and Anna (Turmel) Belanger, he was the youngest of five and would spend his childhood in Lewiston before joining the Navy in 1955. He would make the Navy a career as an Aviation Mechanic before returning to Maine following his retirement in 1977 and beginning a new career as a pipefitter at Bath Iron Works and starting a small business. Retiring from BIW in 1999, he continued to run Jerry’s Plumbing until his final retirement in 2015.

Much more than by his work however, his life was defined by his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather where he will be remembered and cherished for his unwavering love, encouragement, and sacrifice; his never-ending appreciation for and enjoyment of the moments shared with his family; and for the gentleness and sweetness with which he lived his life.

He is survived by Sylvia Belanger (Langelier), his wife of nearly 65 years, a son, James Belanger and partner Tracy Tweedie of Auburn, a daughter, Jacqueline Belanger and grandson, Nathaniel Cash of Leominster, Mass., and a sister, Rita Fortier of Lewiston.

A memorial service will be held at St. Peter Cemetery, Lewiston, on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at 11 a.m.

The family expresses its deepest gratitude to Kim Pauley and all the Andwell Home Hospice nurses and staff for their incredible support and humanity during his illness.
