Kenneth Wesley Sawyer Jr.

AUBURN – Kenneth W. Sawyer Jr., of Auburn passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2024, after a prolonged illness.

Ken was born in Avon, to Mr. Kenneth Wesley Sawyer, Sr, and Phyllis (Nellie Rowe) on Sept. 13, 1929. He spent most of his youth in the Kingfield area, and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1949. He married Arvilla Pettingill in 1950.

Ken was a career salesperson selling cars, steps, and insurance. When he was not working, he loved gardening (especially roses), hunting, and camping. In later years, Ken loved to RV to places like Pennsylvania, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. He took after his father and was a particularly good carpenter making several pieces of furniture which his family cherish as heirlooms. Ken also loved just getting into his truck or car with favorite dog Max, or cat Thumper.

Preceding him in death were his parents, sister Mary (Sawyer) Gile and bother-in-law Richard Gile, and sister-in-law Marcheta “Keeta” Sawyer, wife of his younger brother.

Left to cherish his memory are brother Philip Sawyer of Norway; son Wesley Sawyer of Turner, daughters, Nancy Carr and husband David of Turner, and Sue Ann Tardif and husband Bert of Minot.

Ken had six grandchildren, Brian Tardif and wife Kristen of Virginia, Derek Tardif and partner Crystal St. Hilaire of Minot, Heather Carr of Lewiston, Amanda (Carr) Gagnon of Lewiston, Christine Rodriguez and husband Juan of Windsor, Conn., and Nichole Sawyer of Dayville, Conn. He also is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, four nephews, and three nieces.

Ken’s family would like to thank the staff at Odd Fellows and Rebekah Home in Auburn for all the care they provided over several years.
