POLAND — Poland Heritage Day is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, on the grounds of the Poland Spring Resort & Preservation Park, 640 Maine St.

The event is free and open to the public. There are activities for all ages, such as live music at the gazebo from the Fanfare Concert Band, Blue Grass Hall Pass and Denny Breau in the 1912 All Souls Chapel. The day also will feature food from local Poland Fire Rescue Department, a live blacksmith demonstration, face painting, bounce houses, trolley rides, historic tours and fair games created by the Poland Recreation Department.

Additionally, adventurer and author Jonathan Hayes plans to share the story of the “Race of Mercy” led by famous sled dog Togo, to save the children of Nome, Alaska, 100 years ago. Hayes will be joined by some of the four-legged members of his dog sled team during his presentation at 1 p.m. at the All Souls Chapel.

More than 35 local non-profits and vendors will have booths and displays.

The celebration will also include a $200,000 charitable donation presentation from BlueTriton Brands, owner of the Poland Spring Brand to benefit the Poland Spring Preservation Society and its efforts to repair and maintain the historic 1893 Maine State Building and All Souls Chapel, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The check presentation is scheduled to take place at 10:30 a.m. on the steps of the Maine State Building.
